Labyrinth: Jareth - Bah

Bad ending to the day

Dammit! I lost one of my rings somewhere between my desk and my car. I'd noticed it was pretty loose earlier today and when I got in my car to go home it wasn't on my finger. Ran back up to my office but no sign of it and no one had turned it in to security (yet). I'll tell HR tomorrow, but it's probably gone for good.

So I made Lemon Blueberry pancakes for dinner. Partly for comfort, partly because it's National Pancake Day, and partly because there are pancakes in the story I beta'd today. (Go angelskuuipo's MCU story.)

Leonard stepped off the Waverider and paused to breathe deeply. His eyes closed as the crisp autumn air filled his lungs. It was a welcome change from the stagnant recycled air on board the ship.

He felt a presence at his side, but he knew from her scent that it was just Sara, so he remained as he was.

It was late October in Vermont in the late 1980s. The Waverider was parked in a field not far from a small town that Rip said would be suitable for some R&R while he and Gideon consulted on where to go next.

Silently, Leonard crooked his elbow towards Sara and she looped her arm through his. He opened his eyes and smirked down at her, taking in how beautiful she looked in the heavy burnt orange sweater with the large cowl over her black jeans and boots. She was also wearing a blue knit hat that matched the color of her eyes; as well as fingerless gloves that adorned her hands.

"Quit making eyes at each other and let's get a move on," Mick grumbled as he stepped up behind them.

"I don't make eyes," Leonard protested as they began to follow the path that would lead them into town.

Arrow: Felicity - Shopping

Shopping trip

The good/bad thing about losing weight is that I now have very few pairs of pants that fit, so I endeavored to fix that today.

I started off at Marshalls where I bought two tops and a six-pack of "Autumn Fruit" votive candles. (I'm still not supposed to buy candles, but these just smelled too good to resist. Now that it's starting to cool off I can start lighting candles every night. I really do have too many.) One top is a fairly simple black shirt with a black feature that goes along the neckline and front of the shirt. The other is a black & white sweater/jacket. I couldn't find either one online.

Then I picked up some necessities at Bed Bath & Beyond (K-Cups, razors, fruit storage containers, etc.) before having lunch at Uno's. I'd been craving a burger, but they were all so many points, so I got the one I wanted and only ate half. I also substituted the fries for a salad and ate all of that.

At Kohl's I found a pair of black jeans that don't look like denim, so I can wear them for work. I also am really excited about the belt that I got. As part of the design, it has holes that go all the way to the end of the belt.

The tension on the ship was getting ridiculous. Mick's already short temper was even shorter ever since they returned from Star City 2046. He radiated anger and frustration, which only skyrocketed if Leonard entered the room. Mick always made sure to exit any room that Leonard entered.

Leonard acted like Mick's attitude didn't affect him, but Sara could see that it did. There was always that miniscule light of hope that faded when Mick left the room, followed by a scowl.

Sara decided to take matters into her own hands since the Rogues were never going to get past this if left to their own devices.

She found Mick in the cargo bay, cleaning his heat gun. "Meet me in the training room in ten minutes," she said before heading back up the stairs.

"What for?" Mick called after her.

"To spar, of course," Sara said, disappearing.

Her next stop was Leonard's room. He was playing solitaire on his bed. "Come spar with me," she said upon entering his room.

Fun at the Faire

I had a good time at King Richard's Faire today, even though we got rained on. It was a warm rain, and didn't pour. We just stood under a building for a little while at one point, but no one seemed to care that it was raining.

There was a fun new act this year, a pair of aerial dancers. Photos of them beneath the cut.

I also found a new under dress to wear going forward. It'll go nicely under my forest green over dress.

And I got a gorgeous ceramic bowl from the potter I like. This is my second piece by her.

There was also honey mead. Yum! And dinner at IKEA for Swedish Meatballs.

Johnny wandered into the kitchen and stopped short upon seeing a golden cupcake sitting in the center of the table, a single unlit candle rising from the brown frosting.

A wide smile spread across his face. Before he could do anything else, Dutch walked in.

"Oh, damn, that was supposed to be a surprise," she said.

Johnny turned to face her, still smiling widely. "Don't worry, it was. I take it that's for me?"

Dutch smirked and walked around him, brandishing the lighter she'd gone in search of just a few minutes earlier. With a flourish, she lit the candle, then lifted the plate the cupcake was on and presented it to Johnny.

"Happy Birthday, Johnny," she said.

John Diggle descended the stairs into Verdant's basement to find Oliver sitting in Felicity's chair, intently watching the security feeds for the club.

"Something going on I should know about?" Digg asked. He saw Oliver's shoulders tense imperceptibly and raised an eyebrow, wondering what had Oliver so distracted that he hadn't heard him enter the room.

"Felicity's car is here, but she's not," Oliver stated, turning to face Digg.

"Maybe she parked and went to get dinner or a coffee," Digg suggested.

"She arrived over an hour ago, with a bag of takeout," Oliver said.

Digg folded his arms in front of his chest. "You telling me that you've been staring at the camera feeds for the club for over an hour? There something else you want to tell me?"

"It's not my place," Oliver said, smoothly rising from the chair and stepping around Digg.

"This have something to do with why you've been tense the past few days?" Digg asked.

"I haven't been tense," Oliver lied, unconsciously rubbing his forefinger and thumb together. Something that Digg noticed.

"Mm hmm," Digg hummed, disbelievingly.

Leonard sidled up to Sara in the galley and leaned against the counter next to where she sat on one of the stools. "So, I hear that you have a thing for bad boys," he drawled.

Sara turned to look at him questioningly. "What are you talking about?"

"Raymond couldn't wait to tell everyone about your skills at stealing 1950s cars," he said.

"Ray's such a gossip," Sara acknowledged, then shrugged. "So what if I had a boyfriend or two in high school that were delinquents? My dad's a cop. I was rebelling."

"Not just in high school," Leonard prodded.

"What's with the sudden interest in my dating history?" Sara asked, turning to face him fully.

"Not so much the dating history as an interest in what other skills you may have learned along the way," Leonard said.

Sara raised an eyebrow at that.

"Of the criminal variety," Leonard clarified.

Her other eyebrow rose.

"Not of the assassin variety," he amended again.

"Why do you care?" Sara asked, flippantly.

"Always good to know the skillset of one's teammates," Leonard answered.

Sara leaned towards him and said, "You're just going to have to find out the hard way." She jumped off her stool and sauntered out of the room, a plan beginning to form in the back of her mind. If Leonard wanted to see what other criminal skills she had, then she'd just have to show him.

She gave him a few days to stew in curiosity, and for some of the bruises to heal that Mick had given to him, before making her attempt.

"Those are still looking pretty nasty," she said, standing in the doorway of his room with an icepack in her hand.

"They're healing," Leonard said, waving her into the room and setting his book aside.

"Gideon could heal them faster," Sara suggested.

"No, I earned these," Leonard insisted.

"I had a feeling you were going to say that," Sara said, stepping into his personal space, relieved when he didn't move away from her.

She leaned over a bit and pressed the ice pack to one of the worst bruises on his cheek with her right hand. She'd made sure to wear a loose top with a wide neck today, just for this purpose, giving Leonard a nice look down her shirt.

Leonard cleared his throat and reached up to pull her hand away from his face. "Um, Sara, what are you doing?"

She stood upright and smirked. "Just demonstrating some of my other criminal skills," she said, holding up the pack of playing cards that she had just picked from his jacket pocket.

Leonard blinked up at her, his hand automatically going to his pocket and finding it empty. A slow smile of appreciation spread across his face, until it pulled at his bruises and he had to drop it.

"Not bad, Assassin," Leonard said, approval in his voice. "Or should I start calling you 'Crook', too?"

Sara handed him the ice pack and adjusted her shirt. "Let's stick with Assassin for now," she said. "'Crook' is yours. Wanna play?"

Leonard nodded. "You can even deal," he offered.

Sara climbed up on the bed with him, shuffled the cards, and dealt them, wondering how she was going to demonstrate her skills with a set of lock picks next.

Leonard was starting to think that fate had a very cruel sense of humor. Just because he was called Captain Cold did not mean that he liked being cold.

And yet he seemed to keep finding himself in situations, with Sara, where they were nearly freezing to death. Although, tonight, Sara was in much worse shape than him.

It was supposed to be a quick burglary. Leonard and Sara had been sent to the mark's mansion while he was attending a gala with his wife and the servants had the night off. They just needed one little artifact from the library and then they'd be gone.

Unfortunately, the mark's wife fell ill and they returned home early.

While running through the back yard, Sara hadn't looked where she was going and ran out over the tarp-covered pool and fell in. Leonard helped pull her out quickly, but not quick enough to avoid the security guards. Leonard and Sara had been unceremoniously shoved into the cool wine cellar to await the cops.

"You could at least give her some dry clothes," Leonard said to the guards, his only protest about being locked up.

"She shouldn't have been trespassing," the guard sneered, locking them in.

Leonard Snart had been teaching a yoga class a couple of times a week at Heatwave Gym since his childhood pal, Mick Rory, opened the place a few years ago. Mick had had Leonard's back his whole life, so teaching a class or two when his friend opened his own gym was the least he could do.

What had started out as a small operation - a weight room with a dozen exercise machines and free weights, and one room for various classes - had grown into a three level high tech gym offering everything from yoga to kickboxing, spinning to archery, and swimming to rock climbing. They even offered personal training, babysitting services, massages, and a juice bar.

The grungy hole-in-the-wall gym was long gone, replaced by a bright, welcoming environment that everyone could enjoy. Leonard was happy that his friend had found so much success, and he was happy to be able to make use of the facility (and the people who worked there), as well.

Mick had a knack for finding personable and attractive people to work at his gym, and didn't care if his employees dated each other, so long as they didn't have sex at the gym and didn't let their relationships interfere with their work. The second people's personal lives got in the way of the job, they were both fired. Members were off limits, though.

So Leonard made sure to end all of his affairs with his co-workers amiably. Barry, one of the spin instructors, still made puppy eyes at him sometimes, but Leonard convinced Mick to schedule most of his classes so that they wouldn't overlap.

Sara and Leonard were out on a mission, providing backup to Ray and Rip. They were perched on the rooftops of buildings at opposite ends of the square where Ray and Rip were meeting the target, rifles at the ready. The rest of the team was listening in on comms from the ship.

"I don't think he's going to show," Leonard commented, peering through the scope.

"He's only two minutes late," Rip said, "be patient."

"Patience is my middle name," Leonard said, dryly.

"I thought your middle name was Earl," Sara teased.

"Technically, I don't have one, Love," Leonard admitted. He heard Sara's breath hitch as the endearment slipped past his lips. It wasn't the first time she'd heard it, but it was the first time he'd used it in front of the team.

"What did you call her?" Jax's choked voice spluttered through the comms.

"As much as I'm sure we'd all love an explanation, I'm afraid that it's going to have to wait," Rip interrupted. "The mark has just entered the square. Stay alert."

Sara, Leonard, and Mick were hanging out in Rip's study during some down time because that room had the most comfortable chairs. It also had the best alcohol, according to Mick.

"Ah, just the three delinquents I was looking for," Rip said upon entering his study, eyeing the bottle of alcohol Mick was holding loosely in one hand.

"What can we do you for?" Leonard drawled, taking the bottle from Mick and taking a sip before passing it to Sara.

"If I could tear you away from my liquor cabinet, would you please follow me?" Rip requested, drolly.

Sara shrugged and stood up, setting the bottle on a table, and motioned for the men to do so as well.

"You're not going to follow him, are you?" Leonard asked.

"Nothing better to do," Sara pointed out. Leonard considered that and stood as well.

"C'mon, Mick," Leonard said.

"Fine," Mick grumbled and stood, following his lovers, who were following Rip.

As Rip neared one of the storage rooms, Sara and Leonard exchanged a look behind Rip's back, having guessed what was about to happen.

Rip paused outside of the open door and gestured for the Assassin and Rogues to precede him into the room. Then he went to one of the crates and lifted the lid.

"Do I want to know the story behind this?" he asked, noting how none of them were looking directly at him, or the contents of the crate.

"Probably not," all three of them said.

Leonard Snart didn't complain about pain. He sucked it up, bit the inside of his cheek, dug his blunt fingernails into the palm of his hand or the material of his coat, but he never expressed a word of discomfort. He'd learned at a young age that showing a reaction to pain only earned you more of it.

What he was feeling now was unlike anything he had ever felt before, which was strange because before the pain started he vaguely recalled feeling better than he ever had before.

"Why does it hurt so much?" he groaned, curled into a ball on his bed, his head pillowed on Sara's thigh.

Author's Note: During my last prompt call, I got nine anonymous prompts with just a color. I decided to try writing nine 100 word drabbles that were all snippets of a larger story. I hope you enjoy the result.

~~ Purple ~~

Leo tenderly poked at the purple bruise forming around his eye. It wasn't the first bruise he'd received from his father, but this was the first time that Lewis had hit his face. He'd never left a mark where other people could see before. Now that he was fifteen, and had already been to juvie once, Lewis no longer seemed to care about protecting Leo's face. Not when his juvenile delinquent son could have gotten it anywhere with the kind of life he led. The life that Lewis had dragged him into by the scruff of his neck, mind you.

~~ Yellow ~~

Sara knew exactly which dress she was going to wear to the party that weekend at Tommy's. It was yellow, like a canary, and it fit her like a glove. There was no way that Ollie wasn't going to notice her in this dress. Maybe now he'd stop seeing her as Laurel's little sister and see her as the woman she was turning into. She was much prettier than her sister, and years of gymnastics classes had made her very flexible. Besides, she had a much better rack than her sister, and isn't that what playboys like Oliver Queen wanted?

~~ Blue ~~

Receiving the Cold Gun had been a revelation for Leonard. He'd been a world class thief for years, but now he could really make a name for himself. The weapon had come with a pair of special goggles to protect his eyes from the brilliance of the Cold Gun's discharge, but it did nothing for the chill that came with the cold. A heavy blue parka, complete with a faux-fur rimmed hood, did the trick for that. If The Flash wanted an enemy, well, he had one. Every hero needed a nemesis. Now all Leonard needed was his partner back.

~~ Red ~~

When Nyssa had found Sara, she'd promised to teach her how to be strong. It was an offer that a penniless, starving, and weak woman could hardly refuse. She was tired of being helpless, bowing to the whims of the men that surrounded her. Sara's life on the Amaro had been full of fear, and it wasn't much better on the island. Nyssa was a warrior, and soon, Sara would be, too. If only she could get used to seeing so much blood. Red stained her hands and the backs of her eyelids as Nyssa led her to her bed.

~~ Silver ~~

Leonard wasn't the sentimental type. However, there was a difference between keeping something for sentimentality, and keeping it as a reminder. Even a master planner could miss an important detail from time to time, especially early on in his career, so it was good to have a physical reminder that not everything would always go according to plan. You just needed to stay vigilant to make sure that if something did go sideways, that you had a solid contingency plan in place. He raised his hand to contemplate the silver pinky ring and wondered what Rip had missed this time.

~~ White ~~

Sara had been fighting in black for so long, first with the League and then as the Canary, that she'd felt uncomfortable the first time she'd donned the White Canary leathers. They were beautifully constructed and fit her like a second skin, but she'd didn't know if she could fight in the light the way that Laurel seemed to think she could. She'd commissioned that outfit for Sara before she'd been asked to be a Legend, after all. Now, with her bloodlust gone, Sara truly felt like she could become the hero her sister always thought that she could be.

~~ Orange ~~

It was dusk when the team got back to the Waverider, which was parked next to the Pacific Ocean in California. They paused before entering the ship to watch the sky over the water turn from shades of blue to pink as the sun darkened to a brilliant orange. It seemed to grow in size, filling the horizon, trying to blind them before disappearing and turning the world dark. Leonard slipped his arms around Sara's waist and she leaned back against him, his head propped on top of her head as they enjoyed this quiet moment after a successful mission.

~~ Gold ~~

Sara Snart held her left hand up in a stream of sunlight that had managed to break through the curtains in the honeymoon suite. She wasn't used to the simple gold band that adorned her ring finger, yet. Her thumb turned the band around her finger as she marveled at it. Rolling onto her side, she faced her husband and laid her left hand on top of his, lining up their matching bands. Leonard's eyes drifted open and he smiled, seeing his wife lying beside him. He turned his hand over to hold hers and they drifted back to sleep.

~~ Strawberry Blonde ~~

The loud wailing at 2am woke Sara and Leonard from a dreamless sleep. Leonard rolled out of bed, stumbled to the bassinet in the corner and stretched before leaning down to pick up their crying daughter. He returned to the bed to find Sara sitting up and handed her the hungry infant. Sara lifted her tank top and held her daughter to her breast, sighing as Laurel quieted as she began to feed. Leonard ran his hand over Laurel's strawberry blonde hair, still fascinated by everything she did. Sara smiled tiredly at him and he leaned up to kiss her.
